Year 2 Choir (after school club)
We still have a few spaces available for pupils in Year 2 who are interested in joining the choir. We meet every Thursday from 2.20 – 3.20 in the music room. To sign up, please visit the Infant Office or email Lori – firstname.lastname@example.org.
After half term the children will carry out a recycling project. They will need some recycled materials from home. We would love it if you could start collecting milk bottle tops, kitchen roll inners, cereal boxes, other smaller tubs and lids, to bring in after the half term break. Please make sure all bottles and tubs have been washed!
It is time for us to use our imaginations and invent our own version of the Little Red Riding Hood story. We will consider different animals, different characters and even different settings to see how each would affect the story.
By the end of the week the children will have written a new beginning, a new middle and a new ending to their story.
Discuss with your child the changes they have decided to make as the week continues.
We move on to cover shape this week. The children have already been introduced to 2D shapes and some 3D shapes in Y1, usually the most common and regular shapes. This time they will learn all the vocabulary related to the shapes and the must learn to identify the 2D shapes they can see within 3D items and objects. For example, the cuboid dining table has rectangular faces while the telescope has a circular face. We will also explore shape symmetry.
Practise the vocabulary at home: sides, edges, faces, vertices
We are very excited to have a second farm trip this week. All classes will take the bus to Peninsula Farm one day this week. It is our intention to compare the two farms when we return to class. We will be considering these 5 questions:
- How do they plant their seeds?
- How do they water their crops?
- How does the light get to the plants?
- How do they check the temperature is right?
- Do they use soil for their plants?
Can the children remember the 4 methods of seed dispersal we learned from last week? What does seed explosion mean?
