DSC_4787 KS 1 Sports Day

Once again we were really lucky with the weather for Sports Day. Year 1 and Year 2 children excitedly marched down to the Batelco field for a day of fun.

The children were a real credit to BSB Infant School and behaved beautifully during the day. They all ran their races with great determination We were all very proud of the children and their resilience, sportsmanship and excellent team skills. It is so lovely to see our core values in action at such an event.

Well done to all the winners, but also to all the children who took part in such a sporting fashion. The children wore their well-deserved stickers with pride!  We hope everyone had an enjoyable day!

Here are some photos from the day:

Year 1 Bulletin

For week commencing Sunday, 21st January

Literacy

This week in Literacy we will continue our work on poetry, starting with an exploration of rhythm using musical instruments. We will also look at traditional nursery rhymes to continue our work on rhyming patterns, then end the week with some role play of ‘The Train Ride’.

By the end of the week children will be able to:

  • Recognise and use rhyme.
  • Use expression when performing.
  • Understand and use exclamation marks in a sentence.
  • Write a sequence of ideas.

Check out this link for a preview of the poem!

Maths

This week in Maths we will be partitioning 2 digit numbers into tens and units to help us solve subtraction problems. We will also be consolidating our number bond knowledge by creating number fact families. For example, 10, 4 and 6 are a family so we can create number sentences with them,  10 = 6 + 4,    10 = 4 + 6,  10 – 6 = 4 and 10 – 4 = 6.

  • Answering questions and making observations.
  • Identifying plants.
  • Creating observational drawings.

For week commencing Sunday, 21st January

Literacy

Now familiar with the ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ story, we are now going to read a new version. In this story the Wolf tries hard to clear his name, claiming he is innocent. We must re-evaluate the adjectives we have chosen to describe both Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf with, are they still suitable? Is this Wolf really a big, bad Wolf? This week will be full of drama and speaking and listening activities to help the children learn the new story.

By the end of the week, the children should be able to retell the whole story that they have learned by heart in their classes.

Maths

Our statistics unit continues. The children have honed their tally making skills and practised drawing pictograms. This week they will instead draw bar graphs or block graphs, these require a little extra detail to create.  A lot of time will be spent, during the course of the week, creating and answering questions about their graphs.

These questions are often most tricky:

  1. How many more blues are there than red?
  2. What is the difference between cats and dogs?

The children will need to create a subtraction calculation in order to find the answer.

Topic

This week brings the first of our two farm trips. This week we will go to Remsoon Gardens where they have a working farm with many different varieties of plants growing. The children will get to see the irrigation system in action and can ask Reem, the owner, questions about planting.

Why not take a look at this video clip at home: It tells us all about seed dispersal methods
