Year 1 Bulletin

For week commencing Sunday, 18th March


In Literacy this week we will be continuing our work on non-fiction texts. We will explore a variety of books and discuss what makes them fiction or non-fiction. After that, we will begin to use our current Topic learning about the weather to create our own information writing.

By the end of the week, we will be able to:

• Confidently discuss the features of non-fiction texts
• Identify important information from research to include in our own writing.

Home Learning Task:

Research about extreme weather, e.g. hurricanes, floods, tornados etc, to bring in after the Spring holiday. This could be notes made from videos the children have watched, or books they have read. This will help us after the holiday to carry on our own interesting non-fiction writing.


This week in maths we will be consolidating what we already know. Classes will focus on individual areas which need revision.


Over the next week Year 1 will be continuing to get ready for their Spring Concert on March 26th. Please let teachers know if there have been any changes to your travel plans and if the children will not be in school for the show.

During Topic the children will also continue to look at the different seasons and weather, working on some Art work and researching different types of weather.
