For week commencing Sunday, 8th April
This week the children will write a recount of their spring break. They will chronologically describe some of the activities they did or the places they visited. For this purpose we ask each child to bring to school 4 photographs of themselves during the break…in the mall, at the cinema, out for lunch, with their friends, swimming, on an aeroplane…
When writing recounts we will ask the children to think about the emotive language, feelings words that they know. Which are appropriate to describe their holiday, can we find some new words?
Our next unit is position and direction. The children will learn about turn, eg half turns, quarter turns…which can be related to what they know about fractions also. We will also revise left and right and clockwise and anticlockwise. The children will work mostly practically, challenging each other to follow precise directions and ensuring they can give accurate directions. We will also use the Beebots to help us practise.
This week is ‘Being Healthy’ week. In Year 2 this means a focus on hygiene and germs. WE will do some experiments to investigate how germs spread and then discuss way to prevent this from happening.
On Thursday, which is a half day finish for children, we will have a wow starter for our new learning topic. The teachers have a surprise in store for the children.
Immediately after the break, swimming lessons will begin for some Year 2 classes, a timetable has been shared with parents to explain. Swimming is part of the curriculum and it is expected that all children will swim. A doctor’s note must be provided if your child is unable to join their session. They MUST wear a swim cap in the pool and must be able to dress and undress themselves quickly to be ready for their slot.
This might also be a good time to ensure that all your child’s uniform items are labelled, items can be easily misplaced during changing and are hard to find if they have not been named.
