Year 1 Bulletin

For week commencing Sunday, 3rd June

literacy

This week in Literacy we will be using an image to stimulate our ideas.

The children will:

  • Use their imagination.
  • Discuss their ideas in groups.
  • Plan an adventure story, thinking carefully about the beginning, middle and end.
  • Independently write their own story.

You can support your child by taking a look at the picture, and discussing the following questions:

Y1.png

  • Who is this character?
  • Why are there so many keys and what could they be used for?
  • What adventure could this character go on, using one of the keys?

maths

In Maths next week we will be learning all about time. We will be looking at our daily routine, days of the week, months of the year and then moving on to learning how to tell the time to o’clock and half past.

http://www.teachingtime.co.uk/draggames/sthec1.html

topic
In Topic this week we will be learning more about the capital city of England, London, and all of the iconic buildings and structures it has. We will become building detectives to find out as much information as we can about each one, before sharing our findings with our friends. We will finish the week by creating our own iconic London building using marshmallows and spaghetti!

reminders

As the weather is becoming a lot hotter it is essential that your child wears a hat when going out to play. Please, can you ensure your child brings a hat (clearly named) to school everyday.

Feriha 2 Nursery Concert

Nursery students delighted their parents today as they presented their performances, ‘The Gingerbread Man’, which is an all-time favourite fairy tale, ‘Tiddler’ by Julia Donaldson and ‘The Very Grouchy Ladybug’ by Eric Carle.

The months of hard work all paid off as parents watched their children with absolute pride; they sang and danced their hearts out for all to see.

Well done to all our wonderful performers and many thanks to the teachers and teaching assistants for all their hard work!

Congratulations to all our ‘Super Stars’ this week!

Week Commencing 3rd June

What an end to May! Your children performed so brilliantly in their end of year concerts. It was such a pleasure to watch them all grown up and independent, performing like stars on the stage. Thank you to all parents for your support as we prepared your children for the show. We have come a long way since the beginning of this year 🙂 Here are just a few photos from the day…

topic

We are now coming to the end of our space topic so each class is finishing particular projects that they have started. We will be reviewing some of our rhyming work as well as working on our oral blending skills in literacy. A good story that links well to our topic and builds on rhyming skills is Loon on the Moon which you can watch in the video below:

arabic1

The children in Arabic class will learn:

  • Topic: Shapes (review).
  • Letters: Review all alphabets already studied.
  • Pronounce at least 3 words that contain the letters.
  • Color: Review all the colors.
  • Story:

قصة (سيما والروضة).

Week Commencing 3rd June

literacy

This week we will be learning the lt consonant blends as in belt and tilt. I wonder how many of the lt words your son or daughter can read in the video below:

If the children would like to each bring a small lt object (labelled with their name if they want it back) or a story about an ‘lt’ thing the teachers would love to share them with the class.

The tricky word we will be learning is, asked. How many times can your son or daughter find ‘asked’ in a newspaper or magazine article?  Maybe they could highlight them, or cut them out.

maths

In Maths we will be learning about numbers beyond 20.  Initially we will focus on the numbers between 20 and 30, making sure we realise the difference between 21 and 12, and know which is which. There is lots of practice identifying numbers beyond 20 at https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/helicopter-rescue

topic

In topic we are continuing to learn about how the weather affects our class animal! There might be a little bit of dancing and singing practice for our concert, too.

arabic1

This week the students will study :

  • The Arabic letters:  هـ))  ( Gift – Hadeya ) ( Hoopoe  – Hodhod ) ( Crescent – Helal )

Year 2 Bulletin

For week commencing Sunday, 3rd June

literacy

We will enjoy reading, discussing and learning by heart a range of poems this week. Knowing poems by heart is a current objective in the New National curriculum and one that the teaching staff feel is really important for the children. We will read action poems, rhyming poems, long ones and short ones so that the children get an idea for the type of poems that appeal most to them personally.

If you would like to read some poems at home, take a look at some Pie Corbett poems online. A simple Google search will help you find many of these.

maths

We will continue practising our problem solving skills this week; more word problems and reasoning problems to try out our calculation skills and test our memory of measures, time and money. We must read carefully, find the key words and establish the correct operation to use (X ÷ + -).

CHECK AT HOME: Can you draw a cake and colour ¾? Can you draw a rectangle and split it into thirds?

Have you completed your mymaths task this week?

mymaths

topic

We continue our space explorations this week by introducing the ISS (International Space Station). What’s it like to be there and what would you need to bring with you? We will also create a final chapter for our Journey stories, this one will be a space journey that our character will make.

Can you remember some reasons for and against being an astronaut? (eg. Pro – learn new languages, con – leave family for long periods of time)

reminders

School start times

As you aware the school day for Infants now begins at 7:45, doors open at 7:30am. The children are engaged in an activity at 7:30 and they begin their first lesson by 7:45. Please ensure your child is in class by that time so as not to miss the beginning of their learning.

Wax Work Museum

Class links will be in touch this week to share details of the venue for the children’s wax work museum. Classes will be spread out to allow more space and teachers will inform class links of the exact locations during this week.

Year 1 Bulletin

For week commencing Sunday, 27th May

literacy

This week children will begin looking at visual literacy to help them stimulate their own creative ideas for writing. We will focus on the Pixar short video “Partly Cloudy”, a story about friendship.

Children will:
• Write dialogue for the characters
• Write about the qualities they appreciate in a friend. Children will create a friendship flower to decorate and keep. (Please send a passport size photo of your child to school with them on Sunday to stick onto their friendship flower.)
• Write alliterative poems about animals
• Create and name their own unique zoo animal

maths

Next week we will be tackling money. To do this we will work on our coin recognition skills. We will then apply this knowledge by learning how to add and subtract using coins. We will also calculate change left over and even some word problems.

topic

This week in Topic we will be continuing our learning about bonfire night by exploring fireworks more closely. We will become Scientists for the week, and use a variety of materials for an experiment to create our very own (non-flammable) firework in a glass! Throughout the week we will be using our scientific vocabulary to predict, test and write the results of our enquiries.

reminders

As the weather is becoming a lot hotter it is essential that your child wears a hat when going out to play. Please, can you ensure your child brings a hat to school every day and that their name is written on the inside. Thank you!

Year 2 Bulletin

For week commencing Sunday, 27th May

literacy

This week we will plan and write a story based on air transport to complement all we have learned in our Topic lessons. Our character will visit a number of different habitats on a special mission, describing the habitats they travel to. When they write the beginning, middle and end of their stories, the children will use conjunctions and ENPs to extend, try to add a range of openers for their sentences including –ly adverbs and time conjunctions and they will try to include a range of punctuation including , ! and ?

maths
Over the next 2 weeks, we will be tackling a range of word problems and reasoning problems. We must read carefully, find the keywords and establish the correct operation to use (X ÷ + -).

CHECK AT HOME: Which operation do we usually use to ‘find the difference’?

Have you completed your mymaths task this week?

mymaths

topic
This week we learn about Neil Armstrong and the race for space. Who was first to land on the moon and how difficult was it to get there. We will be writing letters to NASA to see if we can convince them that we too would make excellent astronauts.

What skills and experience do you think would make you a good astronaut?

reminders

SUN HATS AND WATER BOTTLES

It is currently pretty hot outside and we need all children to be wearing a hat while on the playground. Children now only play outside for 1 break time in the earlier part of the day and have their second playtime indoors. To keep them safe and healthy we ask that all children bring a hat and a water bottle to school to ensure they stay cool and hydrated.

VISITORS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

If for whatever reason, parents are entering the school building during the school day, they must first report to the Infant School Reception. To ensure the safety of your children, we must know who is in the building at all times and why. Please ensure you wear your parent’s pass when onsite.

HEALTHY SNACKS

A reminder that all snack boxes should be full of healthy snacks to restore the children’s energy throughout the day. Chocolates, crisps and biscuits are not a good addition to snack boxes. Also be aware that the children have 2 snacks of 15minutes and 20minutes duration. Do consider how much food you feel your child will need for both snacks.
