Year 2 Bulletin

For week commencing Sunday, 6th May

In Literacy lessons this week the children will spend time focussing on the reading skills of Prediction, Retrieval, Inference, Vocabulary and Sequencing. We will look at a variety of texts and encourage the children to create and answer their own questions. Each day we will also focus on one particular aspect of sentence writing to ensure the quality of their sentences continues to improve.

Our time unit continues. We will revise the o’ clock, half hour and quarter to and past times from last week and also begin to look at the 5 minute divisions that make up the hours of the clock. More able children must be able to read time in 5 minute intervals.

By the end of the week we will be studying duration, how long things last, and solving problems related to duration.

If the movie starts at 6 o’ clock and ends at 8 o’ clock, how long did it last?

Jacob left home at half past 8 and arrived at school at 10 o’ clock. How long was his journey?

The children will continue to learn about the sea this week. They will learn more about famous figures in this historical ‘Golden age of Exploration’ and understand the reasons for sea travel in the past. After that, they will compare modern day cruise ships to the ships of olden day voyages.

Morning drops offs

Please be reminded that children are not to be left alone in the playground in the mornings. Please choose one of the following options instead.

  • Drop your child at the morning club (in the main sports hall) from 7am
  • Drop your child at the ‘drop off zone’ from 7:15am. Children will be escorted to the morning club and then to their classrooms after 7:30 when classrooms are open.
  • Drop your child to their classroom at 7:30 when school begins. Registers are taken by 7:45am.

Pioneer’s Day

Children’s jackets/jumpers

While it is hotting up outside, the children often feel a little colder inside under the AC units. It is not always possible to turn the AC off, when many of the children are still warm, so children should continue to bring their over wear in case they are cold in class.

Swimming lessons have now commenced for some classes. Please remember that swimming is part of the curriculum and it is expected that all children will swim. A doctor’s note must be provided if your child is unable to join their session. They MUST wear a swim cap in the pool and must be able to dress and undress themselves quickly to be ready for their slot.
