Year 2 Bulletin

For week commencing Sunday, 13th May

Our new text in Literacy is ‘Lost and Found’, a lovely story about a penguin who is lost. We will read the story, predicting and answering questions to practise our reading skills and summarising parts of the story in full sentences. By the end of the week the children will write a book review to explain why they would or would not recommend the book to others.

We continue learning from our ‘measures’ unit this week. Our focus will be on mass. The children will need to estimate and measure the weight of objects in g (grams) and kg (kilograms). We will revise our more than and less than symbols ( < > ) while comparing weights of objects. Over the week we will also apply our measuring knowledge and skills to word problems and reasoning problems.

EG. Is the largest object always the heaviest object? Give examples to prove your answer.

Have you completed your mymaths this week?

This week we move on to study air travel; different types of transport used in the air. Again, we will be making links between fictions texts, The Flum Flum Tree, and our factual topic unit, Journeys. The children will be excited when we make paper planes in our science experiment. Feel free to practise making these at home! The children will also find out who the Wright brothers are and what they are famous for.

Children’s jackets/jumpers

While it is hotting up outside, the children often feel a little colder inside under the AC units. It is not always possible to turn the AC off, when many of the children are still warm, so children should continue to bring their over wear in case they are cold in class.

SWIMMING lesson classes will change this week.

Starting from Sunday, 13th May there will be a change in PE. If your class have been swimming they now revert back to normal PE lessons (no swimming kit needed). If your class have had normal PE lessons they will now begin their swimming lessons. There is no change to days.

Please remember that swimming is part of the curriculum and it is expected that all children will swim. A doctor’s note must be provided if your child is unable to join their session. They MUST wear a swim cap in the pool and must be able to dress and undress themselves quickly to be ready for their slot.

Pioneer’s Day

Have you chosen your famous explorer or pioneer? Each child must dress up as their chosen explorer and research 5 questions and answers to share with their audience. The parents will be invited to the children’s ‘waxworks museum’ on Tuesday afternoon, 12th June.
