Feriha 2 Last Message from the Head-teacher

Well – we made it! Another incredible and joyous year has come to a close. As I write this, my final blog entry, I am filled with a sense of pride over what we have achieved over this year. The year started off at a sprint; a year of challenges met, huge mountains climbed and summits conquered. Words cannot express how fortunate I have counted myself these last two years to serve as the head-teacher at the BSB Infant School and to be a part of this triumph.

The end of June is always a heartfelt time. As ever, it is the nature of international schools that we will be saying goodbye to a number of staff and students, and this is always a very sad moment for us. I would like to take this opportunity to wish those students and families leaving us this year all the best in their new schools and homes, and I want to extend my sincere thanks and best wishes to staff members who will be leaving BSB for different assignments.

I am grateful for having had the chance to work with such an incredible group of people. Thank you for all your support that you have given to me in my time here and thank you for the memories I’ll be taking with me. Please have a safe and enjoyable summer holiday wherever you may be!

Farewell, BSB!

With my warmest wishes,

Feriha Gauntlett

Reception Concert

‘The Zoo’ was the theme of this year’s concert with all the Reception classes performing a range of fabulous dance moves to their valuable audience, their mummies and daddies.

The months of hard work all paid off as the parents looked on their children with absolute pride as they sang and danced their hearts out for all to see. The memorable performance was truly outstanding!

Well done to all our wonderful performers; special thanks must go to the class teachers and teaching assistants for all their hard work!

Farewell, Year 2 children!

On Tuesday 25th June, we said a final farewell to our Year 2 students as they embark on their new adventure of Year 3. The children ended their time in BSB Infants in style with a special graduation assembly; this is a very special event for us as we celebrate the children’s completion of Key Stage 1 and look forward to their continuing their learning adventure in the Junior School.

To mark the occasion, the children had prepared some songs which they performed spectacularly well for their delighted families, friends and teachers. The children were then presented with certificates by their class teachers to acknowledge their graduation.

World Cup Parade

On Wednesday morning, to celebrate the World Cup, children in Year 1 and Year 2  paraded dressed in the colours of their classes’ adopted countries. This occasion is a good chance for us to celebrate being a school with students from all over the world.

Take a look at the highlights…

 KS1 Transition Day

Thursday 21st June saw our Key Stage 1 students looking to the future as our annual ‘Transition Day’ took place. Children in Year 1 and Year 2 had an exciting time as they had the opportunity to visit a class in the next year group. While our Year 2 children visited the Junior School for the first time, Year 1 children had the chance to spend some time in Year 2 to see what it is like to be in a Year 2 classroom. The children were full of smiles when they returned to their classes.

What an exciting day!

Year 2 Dance!

Year 2 children had a blast celebrating their time in the Infant School at our ‘Superheroes’ themed leavers disco yesterday.  The school cafeteria was converted into a concert hall for our students to party.

The highlight is always a special performance by their class teachers who, this year, surprised the children in their super-villain outfits, contrary to the actual theme of the evening, ‘Superheroes’. It was evident that the teachers had gone the extra mile to  produce a fabulous performance for their students.

Many thanks to class links and the team of parent volunteers for such a fabulous send off.

Upcoming Events:

  • Reception Concert, ‘Going to The Zoo’
When:  Sunday, 24th June
Where: Multi-Purpose Hall
Time: 11 am start
  • Year 2 Graduation Assembly

Year 2 Transition Day – Thursday 21st June

We are all looking forward to the Transition Day for Year 2 to Year 3 that will be happening on the morning of Thursday 21st June. We hope that this day will excite the children about the new experience that will be happening in September and inspire them towards the greater independence that they will develop when joining the Junior School.

We have planned a fun-filled morning with activities that the Year 2 and Year 3 teachers have discussed and feel would be most beneficial for the children.

Here is the timetable of activities that we have planned:

  • Introduction to Year 3 teachers
  • Joining the Juniors – The Movie and Flipgrid messages
  • How to prepare for Year 3 – Targets for over the holidays
  • Tour around the Juniors
  • Lunch in the cafeteria
  • Playtime with current Year 3
  • Collection from the Playground

After Transition Day your child will come home with a target sheet entitled ‘How to Prepare for Juniors’. They will be given the choice of targets that they would like to aim to achieve over the long summer holiday such as: Can I tie my laces? Can I memorise my parents’ phone numbers? Can I recite my times tables? Your child will choose the targets that they feel they would like to work towards.

There is a Google slideshow that accompanies the target card. Please click HERE to view. This will give you a better idea of what we mean by the targets, the options that your child can choose from and some helpful, tips, advice and videos that you and your child can refer to over the holidays.

We ask you to work with us to instil confidence in the children and talk to them about what is about to happen so that they feel more at ease and look forward to the change in September.

Kind regards

Mrs Drennan & the Year 3 Team

The ceremony will take place in the Multi-Purpose Hall and then finish in classrooms for the presentation of certificates. We hope that you’ll be able to join us.
