For week commencing Sunday, 10th June.
This week we will revise many of our SPAG objectives. That is, all of the Spelling rules for Year 2, the Punctuation including !,?. and CAPITALS, and the Grammar conventions such as tenses and different word classes (noun, verb, adverb, adjective etc.) We will also spend some time practising our PRIVS (prediction, retrieval, inference, vocabulary and sequencing) reading comprehension skills.
Have you returned your library and reading books? All books will be collected in for audit before Thursday 14th June.
The final spelling test of the year will be completed this week, good luck!
Over the next 2 weeks, all of your spellings from Year 2 will be tested in class sessions so have a check back and see which words you can remember.
We will complete our revision unit this week with a range of mixed problems. The children will need to read carefully and to choose the correct operation based on the problem presented. They then must choose their best method to solve the question.
CHECK AT HOME: which operation will you use for altogether, how many more, how many less, how many are left, sharing?
Have you completed your mymaths task this week? The last Year 2 task will be set on Thursday 14th June.
This week all of our topic will be carried out on Tuesday, our Pioneers day. The children will arrive in school dressed as their chosen pioneer and armed with their 5 (or more) questions to which they have already learned the answers. They are also welcome to bring any necessary props needed to complete their outfit.
They will carry out exciting tasks throughout the day and then prepare for their waxwork museum in the afternoon.
Parents are invited to come along at 1pm to visit the museum and then take a look at the children’s work in class before they depart.
It is hot. Please send your child to school with a sun hat.
You are probably already aware that the Y2 Graduation ceremony will take place on the morning of the 25th June. There will be a whole Year group ceremony and afterwards certificates will be presented to the children in their classrooms.
FIFA World Cup
To celebrate The World Cup which will begin on Thursday 14th June, each Year 1 and 2 class have been assigned a country. As well as support this team throughout the tournament, the children will focus their learning for the last two weeks around their chosen country.
We kindly ask children to come to school on the first day back after half term wearing their country’s colours. Your child may want to bring in an accessory such as a small banner or flag.
