Dear BSB Parents and Staff,

I just wanted to wish you all a well-deserved break after what has been a long, but a successful and productive half term. I extend my grateful thanks to the entire BSB community: thank you to the parents for your ongoing support and thank you to the amazing staff at the BSB Infant School for their tremendous hard work.

I hope everyone has a wonderful break full of exciting things to do and quality family time, and wish all our Muslim families and staff a peaceful Eid holiday.

Please note, the school will resume on Wednesday, 20th June to complete the rest of the Summer Term.

After half term/Eid holiday, please note the following dates:

20th June – Year 2 Superheroes Party

24th June Reception Concert

25th June – Year 2 Graduation Assembly

28th June – Last Day of Summer Term

With my best wishes,

Feriha Gauntlett

Pioneers Day

On Tuesday, the children in Year 2 celebrated the end of their popular topic, ‘The Pioneers’. The children arrived in school dressed as famous explorers and inventors, some from long ago and some dressed as more modern pioneers.

During the day, the children were tasked to create inventions of their own: the ‘tooth-comb’, the ‘foodinator’ and the ‘homework finisher’ being good examples. They also got stuck into a code breaking activity that required using their mapping skills to find the answer.

In the afternoon, the children showed off their fabulous speaking skills when they shared the facts they had learned in their ‘Wax-Works’ museum. The parents were impressed by the many facts they shared and the children thoroughly enjoyed their experience; they were all very well informed about their famous person.

Before the day ended, the parents came back to the classrooms to take a look at the topic work the children had produced and the ‘Journey’ stories they had written.

Well done, Year 2 children!

Conjunctivitis / Pink Eye

Dear Parents,

There have been a number of children with Conjunctivitis (also known as red or pink eye)  in the school recently. It is an eye condition caused by infection or allergies.

If you suspect that your child might have any of the symptoms below, please make sure you keep them away from school until their infection has cleared up.

If your child has conjunctivitis, they may have:

  • a red or pink eye (or both eyes)
  • redness behind the eyelid
  • swelling of the eyelids, making them appear puffy
  • excessive tears
  • a yellow-green discharge from the eye which dries when your child sleeps, causing crusting around the eyelids
  • Itchiness of the eyes and eye rubbing.

Students with the symptoms listed above need to stay home for 24 hours after the symptoms subside. If these symptoms remain for longer than a day, contact your doctor to see if your child needs to be further examined.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Infant School nurse.

Many thanks for your cooperation.

Reception

Week Commencing Wednesday 20th June

literacy

Until the end of the year we will be continuing to revise digraphs we have encountered this year, including ai, oa and er. As usual Geraldine the Giraffe and Mr Thorne can help the children’s learning in the videos below:

We will be reviewing the tricky words we have already encountered, particularly focusing on writing them correctly.

maths

In Maths we will be focusing on number 10. How 10 looks different depending on 10 of what and how 10 can be made up of different numbers! A home challenge could be to make as many different two coloured towers of 10 blocks – the teachers would love to see a photograph of them!

topic

In topic we are continuing to learn about the weather and heat, and how these might just affect summer holiday plans! There might be a little bit of dancing and singing practice for our concert, too.

Once the children have finished performing they can be collected from their classrooms and taken home.  Please note, however, that the school buses will operate at the usual times.

Class Parties will take place on Wednesday 27th June. Children will be able to come to school in party clothes and enjoy a shared lunch. Class teachers will send out details nearer the time. If your child is not be going to be in school for the party it would be helpful if you could let the class teacher know in advance.

There will be transition activities on Monday 25th, Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th from 7.45 – 8.15am. These will include visiting Year classrooms and meeting Year 1 teachers.

Feriha 2 Year 1 and Nursery Buddy Reading

Today the students in Nursery were treated to a delightful visit from the students in Year 1 for an exciting buddy reading session! The Year 1 students brought along their favourite books and proudly showcased their reading and comprehension skills. The Nursery children listened and followed along with great interest. The older students encouraged their smaller peers to try to read and provided them with gentle guidance. Both groups of children truly enjoyed this enriching experience.

it is a girl.

Fatima RI am delighted to announce you the safe arrival of R7 teaching assistant, Fatima Redha’s baby daughter, Reema, who was born on 6th June. On behalf of the BSB community, I would like to congratulate the family and wish them and their newborn many years of good health, love and happiness.

We are all thrilled by the fantastic news and can’t wait to see little Reema very soon.
