In Literacy the children will continue to describe Harry from the story Harry and the Dinosaurs go to School. This time they will use all the interesting adjectives about Harry’s appearance and personality, which they generated last week to write a character description of Harry.
Can you remember to put a capital letter at the start of a new sentence and full stop at the end of the sentence?
The children will also be using joining conjunctions to join two sentences together. Can you use the word AND and BECAUSE in a sentence?
This week in Maths, we will begin to look at Addition and Subtraction as related facts. We will be using the part-whole model to demonstrate the relationship between the two operations and how they are inverse and part of the same family.
20 + 3 = 23 & 23 – 3 = 20
We will continue to look at the greater than >, less than < and same as = signs, however, this time the children will compare number sentences.
6 + 4 ? 6 + 5
6 + 4 < 6 + 5
The children will also begin to understand how calculations with similar digits are related.
If 2 + 5 = 7 then 20 + 50 = 70
This week, Topic is all about children’s favourite thing- TOYS. We will be looking at toys from the past and comparing them to the toys the children play with today. We will look at playground games and the traditional games played in Bahrain, including Sabah, Sikaina and Khabsa. The children will use the questionnaire completed at home by an older relative to discuss what game/toys they used to play.
If you have an old toy at home, why not bring in it to school and share it with your class.
The children will end the week by creating their own new playground game. They will need to make a set of rules for the game, which they will test and play with other children in the playground.

For Topic, the children are invited to bring in their favourite toy on Sunday. They will have the chance to explain why it is their favourite toy.
At some point next week the children will have their first spelling test. It is very important for the children to apply these words correctly in all their writing not just in their spelling test.
