Week commencing Sunday, 7th October
This week in Literacy the children will be applying everything they have learned over the past few weeks to write their best character description of one of the characters in the story Harry and the Dinosaurs go to school.
As a class the children will attempt to write the Steps to Success for a good character description.
- What are adjectives?
- What joining conjunctions can we use to help us extend our sentences?
- What punctuation must we always have in our writing?
These are a few things the children need to think about when writing their character description. The children will end the week by assessing their final piece of writing against the Steps to Success.
In Maths this week, the children will continue to look at Addition and Subtraction. They will begin by looking at 1 more and 1 less than a number and then challenging them to adding and subtracting the numbers 2/3/4.
The children will also be looking at number bonds to 100 in tens.
This will nicely lead onto finding 10 more and 10 less than a number
10 more than 23 = 33
10 less than 46 = 36

In Topic this week the children will enjoy making their own clay thumb pinch pot for a tealight candle. Looking at shapes and lines, they will design the pattern they would like for their pot. The children will then make their pot using the thumb pinch technique and using clay tools they will create their pattern onto their pot. Once their pot is dried they will paint their pot in the colours of their choice. Finally, the children will evaluate their pot by answering the following questions.
- What do you like about your pot?
- Does your clay pot fit a tealight candle?
- Does your clay pot look like your design?
- How could you make it better?
To pay, sign and return the permission slip for the Bahrain Museum trip to the class teacher.
The next spelling test will take place on the week of the 21st October.
