Year 2 Bulletin


In Literacy this week, the child will revisit the learning from previous weeks all about describing a setting. They will focus on The Great Fire of London as the setting and generate vocabulary using their senses to describe it. The children will write their descriptive setting, remembering the Steps to Success (S2S) including, capital letters, full stops, joining conjunctions and adjectives.

Using your senses- hear, feel, see and smell, how would you describe a fire?

The children will also write a recount of the fire station trip. This will help build on the use of time conjunctions, sequencing events in the correct order and expressing how they felt at different stages of their trip.


In Maths this week, the children will be introduced to multiplication. They will begin by making equal groups by using the following statement

There are ____ equal groups with _____in each group.

For example

There are 3 equal groups with 2 in each group.

Using this concept the children will then move onto representing the above as a repeated addition calculation

For example

There are 3 equal groups with 2 in each group.

🔺          🔺 🔺          🔺 🔺          🔺

This can be said as:

There are three 2s or 3 lots of 2

which can be written as


From this the children will then be introduced to the multiplication sign and the different vocabulary used for multiplication, including times, multiply, groups of and lots of. The children will learn to convert the addition calculation into a multiplication calculation.

For example

2+2+2= 6  would be 3×2= 6

This will lead into introducing the children to arrays as a pictorial method for multiplication.

3×2= 6 would be represented as the below array



In Topic this week the children will be visiting the fire station to learn all about the important job firefighters do, the equipment they use and how to stay safe when there is a fire. This will nicely link into the Great Fire of London where the children will be able to compare and contrast the different methods and equipment used in 1666 and now.

Early Finish on Wednesday

Due to staff INSET, Infants will finish school at 11.30am on Wednesday 28th November.

After School Clubs

There will be no clubs on Wednesday 28th November due to staff INSET training.

Last day for clubs will be Thursday 29th November.

Fire Station Trip

The children in year 2 will be visiting the Fire Station next week.
